Reddit continues to innovate by making its platform more accessible to users around the world. Yesterday, the social media giant announced the expansion of its AI-powered post-translation feature to include more languages and regions.

The translation tool, initially introduced earlier this year for Redditors in France, is now being rolled out to users in more than 35 additional countries. This update will enable users to engage with Reddit content in their native language, significantly enhancing their experience on the platform.

In an official statement, Reddit shared: “Earlier this year, we introduced a new machine translation feature to redditors in France, and to continue to bring Reddit to even more people around the world, today we’re starting to roll out machine translation to redditors in more than 35 additional countries.”

Among the key languages being added are Portuguese and Spanish, allowing Brazilian and Spanish-speaking users to seamlessly translate posts. The translation option can be accessed via the post menu in the web, app, and desktop versions of Reddit.

The expansion doesn’t stop there. Reddit revealed plans to introduce translations for German, Italian, and Filipino users, as well as further expand coverage in countries throughout Latin America in the coming weeks. This step aligns with Reddit’s commitment to fostering a more inclusive global community.

One of the standout features of this translation tool is its ability to allow users to contribute in their preferred language, with Reddit’s AI-powered system automatically translating posts into the community’s native language. To preserve the integrity of the content, Reddit is also adding indicators on translated posts, along with the option to view the original text for clarity.

As Reddit looks toward the future, it’s not only focused on translation. The company is also exploring other AI-powered enhancements, such as summarizing discussions in subreddits. These developments underscore Reddit’s drive to leverage machine learning and AI to enrich user interactions and accessibility.

By expanding its translation feature, Reddit is taking a significant step toward bridging language barriers and fostering a more inclusive and interconnected global user base.
