Microsoft issues urgent alert for 50 million users to update Windows 11

Microsoft has issued a critical alert, urging 50 million users to update their devices to Windows 11 as part of their 24H2 security update. The update highlights a “critical vulnerability,” prompting immediate action. This alert is particularly crucial for users still operating on outdated versions such as Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8.1, for which Microsoft has ended all technical support.

The U.S. government has also set updated deadlines, warning users about the risks of continuing with older Windows versions. Currently, there are around 900 million Windows 10 users who have been advised to update their PCs, operating systems, or hardware, as Microsoft no longer supports older versions of Windows.

Microsoft emphasizes that Windows 11 is the most secure and up-to-date version of the OS. “We recommend moving to Windows 11 by purchasing a new PC,” the company said, explaining that today’s computers are significantly faster, more powerful, and more secure than their predecessors.

In line with these recommendations, users with PCs that run outdated versions of Windows are advised to switch to Windows 11, as older machines are incapable of supporting the latest OS. Microsoft warns that unsupported Windows versions do not receive critical updates, leaving devices vulnerable to harmful viruses, spyware, and other threats that can compromise personal data.

As Microsoft works on additional solutions and safety precautions expected to arrive by 2025, users continuing with outdated Windows versions may experience slower performance and sluggishness. The tech giant has also encouraged using OneDrive for smoother upgrades to Windows 11.
