The iPhone 16 Pro, Apple’s latest flagship device, has made waves with its stellar performance and impressive camera capabilities. However, despite its initial praise, users have started encountering a frustrating issue — a bug causing the phone to randomly reboot. Reports of this issue have been flooding platforms like Reddit and Apple Support Community, where iPhone 16 Pro owners are expressing concerns about their devices shutting down or freezing without warning.

The Bug: What’s Causing It?

The problem seems to stem from the iOS software itself. Both the stable release of iOS 18.0.1 and the beta version of iOS 18.1 have been identified as the culprits behind these random reboots. Unfortunately, because the issue occurs unpredictably, users are left with little to no control over preventing it.

In many cases, the bug manifests as a sluggish or unresponsive display that stops reacting to touch inputs, followed by a sudden reboot. Some users have even reported that their iPhone 16 Pro rebooted while sitting idle on a desk or while in their pocket. Often, the only sign of a reboot is when users are prompted to re-enter their PIN via the Shortcuts app after picking up the device.

Impact on Users

Though the bug affects relatively few users per day, it can be quite disruptive. The frequency of reboots varies. While most users experience one or two reboots a day, some have reported experiencing over 10 reboots within a 24-hour period. This inconsistency makes the bug especially troublesome, as there’s no clear pattern or solution at this point.

Moving Forward

Given the growing number of reports, however, it’s likely that the tech giant is investigating the problem and will roll out a software patch in the near future. In the meantime, affected users are advised to keep their devices updated and back up their data regularly to avoid potential data loss.
